
Allison Brooks Janney (born November 19, 1959)[2] is an American actress. Her appearances on screen and stage have been a hallmark of her career which spans more than three decades. Janney received nominations for two Tony Awards and has been recognized with an Academy Award as well as an Academy Award and a British Academy Film Award. Janney was born in Boston but was raised at home in Dayton (Ohio). Her career began when she was awarded a scholarship to education at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art following her graduation from Kenyon College. Following years of minor, insignificant appearances on TV and films Her breakthrough came when she played her role as C. J. Cregg in The West Wing, an NBC the political show The West Wing (1999-2006), for which she received the award of four Primetime Emmy Awards. Because of her character Margaret Scully, a Showtime actress in"Masters of Sex," a period television drama Masters of Sex, Janney took home this year's Primetime Emmy Award as Outstanding guest actor in a drama Series.
